Central Park Plaza Market
June through October

Don’t miss your opportunity to visit Valparaiso’s Central Park Plaza Market in its NEW LOCATION FOR 2011. This year, the local growers and craftsman will be located on Lafayette Street – adjacent to the park. With the streets closed off to traffic, you can ease on down the road, stopping to shop for bedding plants in early summer, the freshest vegetables from summer through fall, the handiwork of outdoor decorations, and fresh fruit pies from Garwood Orchards.

Tuesdays: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., June through October

NEW in 2011 – Live Musical Entertainment, Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – August through October

Outdoor Movies Under the Stars -

Soapbox Derby

The first All-American Soapbox Derby race was held in Dayton, Ohio, on August 19, 1934. Today, Soapbox Derby races throughout the country are great ways to have fun and healthy competition. Valparaiso’s Soapbox Derby is held on Lincolnway between Morgan Blvd. and Greenwich. For more information, contact Valparaiso Director Paul Zulich: (219) 462-5244.

Mayor’s Fourth of July Celebration – July 4. 2010

Come on out to celebrate the 4th of July in Valparaiso style! Music is provided by the talented local high school musicians and the ConservaDellics, starring Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas! The celebration is held at T. J. Middle School - South Parking Lot, Event begins at 6:30 p.m.; Fireworks at dusk. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket for best viewing comfort. Rain date is July 5.

See the Grand Opening Video!

On August 6, 2011, the Summer Rhapsody Music Festival officially marked the Grand Opening of Central Park Plaza – the most recent addition to Valparaiso’s downtown streetscape. The Porter Health Amphitheater hosts events and performances. The Central Park Plaza Market brings fresh-from-the-farm produce, plants, and handicrafts to the area. The Splashing Fountain delights children of all ages.
